# Entity Types

### **Entity Types**

MAGNiTT’s platform tracks several distinct entity types, each with specific classification criteria. This page defines how each entity type is classified on the platform.

### **Companies (Startups)**

MAGNiTT tracks 36,195 companies across Emerging Venture Markets. A company is included on the platform when it meets the definition of a VC-backed company: it has received equity funding at any point from a venture capital firm, corporate venture arm, accelerator programme, or angel investor.

Companies are classified by their primary industry (28 categories), headquarters location, founding year, funding stage, and verification status.

### **Investors**

MAGNiTT tracks 8,182 investors with at least one verified investment on the platform. Investor types include:

**Venture Capital (VC) —** Firms whose primary activity is investing in startups and early/growth-stage companies through dedicated fund vehicles.

**Corporate Venture Capital (CVC) —** Investment arms of corporations making venture investments, either from balance sheet or dedicated fund structures.

**Angel investors —** Individual investors deploying personal capital into startups at early stages.

**Accelerators & incubators —** Programmes that provide funding (typically small equity cheques) alongside mentorship and resources.

**Family offices —** Private wealth management entities making venture investments.

**Sovereign wealth funds —** Government-owned investment entities, including those with venture mandates.

**PE firms (acting in venture) —** Private equity firms participating in venture rounds. Round classification follows deal characteristics, not investor type.

**Fund of funds —** Entities that invest in other funds rather than directly into companies. Clients include SVC, Jada, QDB, BDB, Al Waha, and ISSF.

### **Funds**

MAGNiTT tracks 1,000 funds. A fund entity represents a distinct investment vehicle with a defined mandate, vintage, and portfolio. Funds are linked to their managing investor and to the companies in their portfolio.

### **Exits**

MAGNiTT tracks 1,374 exits. Exits are classified as M&A (acquisition by another entity) or IPO (listing on a public exchange). Exits are excluded from funding data but included in exit-specific analytics.

### **Funding rounds**

MAGNiTT tracks 24,240 investment rounds. Each round is classified by stage (11 tags from Pre-Seed to Venture Growth), verification status, and associated entities (company, investors).
